Los Angeles -- As the fall season creeps in you wonder where has the year gone. The fall line up will be here sooner than later. The NFL Pre-Season has kicked in followed closely in second place with the award season. From Prime-Time Emmy's to the AFTRA/SAG Awards and their progeny, PGA (Producers Guild of America), DGA (Directors Guild of America), WGA West (Writers Guild of America) and a bunch more from music to people's awards culminating in the grand daddy of them all The Academy Awards(R). Well we will have more on that later. But for now I want to spend a little bit of time talking about a special friendship I have had with someone whom I don't know a whole lot about but seem to know more not knowing her than having known her. She is one of the most elegant and polite individuals you can meet. I happened to only get to known her recently though I have seen her often over the years serving in the Church she and I attend. What makes this individual special to me is the fact that she never advertised who she is nor what she does but instead just did what she could do with a cheerful heart and a dedicated soul. I wish we had more people like her. I wish I could be like that. I am trying.
So what makes her so special? Well what makes her so unique is not what she does but what she has been recognized for. Dina Demetrius is a broadcaster. She worked at the PBS member station here in Los Angeles at KCET-TV and a couple of days ago she posted a picture taken back stage at the Television Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood holding her first Day Time EMMY. She never spoke nor discussed nor let be known to anyone what she did unless, I assume close friends and intimate relations, which I have no knowledge of. But I can tell you this she is a catch. A professional whose attraction lies in her stunning smile and congenial gracious attitude. Maybe that is what it takes to work in this business. Less talk more action.
For you see the movie business, all visual media for that matter is not about image but the capacity to produce that image in a professional, successful, economical and non-egotistical manner. Contrary to the myth that public opinion holds of the entertainment medium, this is first and foremost a business the least of which is glamour. That's the realm of the sales and marketing publicity teams. And they do it well for sure.
So Dina, here is looking at you kid. Can't wait for the next.
