Los Angeles -- The Producers Guild, that clubby wanna be union of management, those who control the money hit on a neat idea that had a ring of truth. TIC, no not the insect, no not being irritated, but probably more the latter than the former. What they did was launch a campaign to institute truth in credits or to tell the truth what you really did in the production. So many resume's are padded with above the line production credits that you wonder how these pictures got made in the first place. Everybody is a "producer". But you rarely see a "gaffer" title or even a "foley artist" unless you are a voice over actor.
Mind you there is nothing wrong with being a producer or a gaffer or a foley artist. What is wrong is the embellishment of one's ego at the expense of everybody else. The truth always comes out and the truth always wins out. Those who are working established professionals see the project and the application of their hired skills to complete the project in a timely, efficient and mutually lucrative manner. They do not embellish their contribution even when it is truly significant but focus on the task at hand.
